Richard Gabriele
Richard Gabriele is Counsel to our Litigation Department. He has more
than thirty years of experience in a wide range of civil and commercial
litigation, including contract and partnership disputes, antitrust and trade
regulation, lawsuits arising from various aspects of real estate
transactions, health law issues, and zoning and municipal matters. He
has been in private practice since 1985 and conducted many trials, both jury
and non-jury. His legal experience also includes an extensive amount
of appellate work. He has argued cases in every appellate division of
the State of New York, and has appeared before both the New York Court of
Appeals and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He is also
admitted to the federal U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the
Ninth Circuit, the District of Columbia Circuit and to the United States
Supreme Court.
Richard has represented
private parties as well as municipalities and zoning boards in numerous
Article 78 and administrative proceedings relating to land use and zoning
matters. He is currently general counsel to the Village of Great Neck
Plaza. He also has many years of experience in antitrust litigation,
having previously served as the Deputy Bureau Chief of the Antitrust Bureau
in the Office of the New York State Attorney General during the tenure of
Attorney General Robert Abrams. While there, his office was involved
in the successful investigation and prosecution of the milk and concrete
industries, among others, resulting in the recovery of millions of dollars
in fines and damages. Richard began his legal career working for
Nassau Suffolk Law Services where he headed the Impact and Law Reform Unit.
Richard received his law
degree from Yale Law School in 1973 where he was a member of the Board of
Directors of the Legal Services Organization. Before Yale, he was
educated by the Jesuits for eight years at Regis High School and Fordham
College. He graduated summa cum laude from Fordham, where he was a
member of Phi Beta Kappa and was his class valedictorian. He has also
studied and received a degree in political science from the Institute d
Etudes Politiques in Paris. He has been active for many years in community
organizations, including his local P.A.L. and numerous school district
committees. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of
Trustees of the NYS IOLA Fund.
