Philip L. Sharfstein

Philip L. Sharfstein is a Co-Chairman of our Real Estate Department. He has extensive experience representing developers, owners, tenants, lenders and borrowers in all types of real estate transactions including acquisitions, sales, leasing, sale/leasebacks, construction and development agreements, joint ventures, mortgage loans and the restructuring of mortgage debt. He has rendered these services with respect to all types of real estate including retail, office, residential, hotel and warehouse/industrial properties. Philip is a practical attorney who facilitates transactions beyond providing legal expertise. His clients include national and regional retailers, developers and property owners and institutional lenders as well as entrepreneurs in various businesses.

From 1985 until 1987, Philip was associated with a New York City boutique law firm specializing in real estate syndications, real estate transactions and corporate and securities matters. In 1987, he joined a mid-size New York City law firm as an associate and became a partner of that law firm in 1992, where he continued his real estate practice. In 2001 Philip and Stuart Ball established our Real Estate Department.

Philip earned his law degree from Brooklyn Law School, cum laude, in 1984, where he was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Contracts. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1981. Philip is admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey and is a member of the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers. Philip currently serves on the Advisory Board of First American Title Insurance Company of New York.
