William E. Vita

William E. Vita is a partner in our litigation department. Bill is a seasoned litigator with extensive experience in many different areas of complex civil litigation including commercial litigation, business torts, product liability, construction litigation, breach of contract disputes, disloyal employees and mass torts.

Prior to joining Westerman Ball, Bill was a partner at a nationally known  Long Island litigation firm, where he represented clients ranging from Fortune 100 corporations to small businesses and individuals. At that firm, his practice included representation of clients in multi-district litigation and in the New York City Asbestos Litigation.

He is a cum laude graduate of Boston College Law School and obtained his undergraduate degree in English at the University of Notre Dame. Immediately after law school, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn for five years.  Bill spent two of those years in the Rackets Bureau, prosecuting organized crime and complex economic fraud cases.

He also gained extensive trial experience.  Indeed, Bill has tried over twenty-five cases to verdict. Since leaving the District Attorney’s Office, he has represented numerous corporate witnesses in both Federal and State grand jury investigations.

Bill served as the Chairman of the Product Liability, Construction and Motor Vehicle Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association's Trial Lawyer's Section. He has also held leadership roles in national bar associations, including the position of Vice-Chair of the Commercial Litigation Committee of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel.  He is also a member of both the Commercial Litigation Section and the Product Liability Section of the Defense Research Institute.

When not practicing law, Bill has served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Gerald Ryan Outreach Center, a non-profit organization serving one of Long Island’s poorest communities.  He also served as a Board Member for Catholic Charities’ Campaign for Human Development.
