March 2010:  Christopher A. Gorman, Esq. has joined our firm as an associate in our Litigation Department, concentrating his practice in all phases of commercial litigation in State and Federal Courts.


January 2010: Continental Home Loans, one of the largest originators of residential home loans on Long Island, recently closed a multi-million dollar debenture agreement with Ares Capital Partners. Continental is a residential lender in over twenty states and has numerous offices throughout the metropolitan area. Richard Harrison, counsel to the Firm's Litigation Department, represented Continental Home Loans in the transaction.


Eric G. Waxman, III,  a partner in the Firm's Bankruptcy and Restructuring Department, will be serving as an adjunct professor at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, teaching UCC Article 2 (sales) during the Spring 2010 semester.


Stuart Ball, the Co-Chairman of the Firm's Real Estate Department, and Jeffrey Miller, the Chairman of the firm's Litigation Department, have each been selected as "New York Super Lawyers" for 2009.  Only five percent of New York metro attorneys have been named to this list.  Stuart and Jeff were selected through an extensive process of peer nominations, blue ribbon panel review and independent research.  Congratulations Stu and Jeff!


Mickee Hennessy, a partner in the firm's Bankruptcy & Restructuring Department, has been re-elected as General Counsel to the Long Island Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, an international not-for-profit organization of corporate renewal professionals.


August 2009: Long Island Business News has selected the name Partners of the Firm, John Westerman, Stuart Ball, Alan Ederer, Jeffrey Miller and Philip Sharfstein, to be honored as among the "Top 50 Around 50" Business Leaders on Long Island. An event for the honorees will be held on September 24, 2009.


August 2009: Richard Harrison, counsel to the Firm's Litigation Department, has recently obtained a favorable decision for one of the Firm's financial institution clients, securing dismissal of a case commenced against the client in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Kings County. On August 20, the Honorable Jack Battaglia entered an order dismissing a lawsuit alleging claims of fraud, conspiracy to defraud and violation of New York General Obligations Laws, thus protecting the client's six-figure mortgage on certain real property in Brooklyn, New York. Congratulations, Richard!


August 2009: Joy Phanamus, a partner in the firm's Real Estate Department, has been listed by Long Island Business News as one of its "Who's Who in Women in Professional Services." Congratulations, Joy!


July 2009:  Litigation partner, William E. Vita, recently spoke on two different topics at the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel’s Annual Meeting.  The FDCC is a national bar association for both in-house corporate attorneys and outside counsel.  Bill Vita spoke to the Commercial Litigation Section on the topic of “Recent Developments in Removal of Cases to Federal Court.”  He also spoke to the Employment Law Section on the following topic: “New Threat on the Horizon for Employers – Can Cyberbullying Create a Hostile Work Environment?”
